Improvement

My mom completed her 3rd treatment and seems to be tolerating the medicine well. Her main complaint is she feels very weak and fatigued. The good news is that she has no pain and her numbers seem to be getting slightly better.

They have put her on Ritalin which helps with the fatigue and with her mental clarity. Ironically, that seems to be the medicine that helps most. It's encouraging to see her moving around more and eating meals in the kitchen as opposed to her bed.

She is reading a lot to pass the time. The downside of feeling a little better is wanting to do more, but not being able to do much. I ordered her some adult coloring books and she's enjoyed passing some of her time artistically:). We aren't sure if it's because of all the reading or if her vision has just gotten worse, but she doesn't see as well and her eyes feel strained and tired. I just ordered her an Echo Dot so she can listen to books as well.

Her 4th treatment is scheduled for this Thursday morning. Sometime in the next couple of weeks they will do another CT scan on her abdomen to see if the medicine has helped with the tumors. We hope to see that the tumors have gotten smaller and the cancer has not spread any further.

I have seen some positive changes in my mom over the last couple of weeks. Her appetite has improved and some of her old favorites are sounding good to her again. She actually had some dark chocolate and ice cream at my house recently. Sweets haven't been sounding good to her at all, and she used to love a little something sweet after a meal. Her energy has been better, and she can hold conversations for longer periods of time. I'm hopeful for good news when they do the scan.

Please continue to pray for healing and wisdom for the doctors and all of us as we make decisions about her treatment plan. We have requested a second opinion from The Cleveland Clinic and should receive their results in the next few weeks. They may come back and say that the treatment plan MDA has put forth is the best or they may have some other suggestions.

I know many of you might be discouraged that she is unresponsive with emails and text messages. I know it must be difficult to want to help, visit, and offer support and not be able to. Just know that once she is ready for this, we will let you know. She knows you love her and are praying for her. We are so blessed by your prayers...please keep it up!

Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.
