Update from Larry (December 19)

December 19

It seems like things have leveled off over the last two weeks but actually there has been a slight change for the better in Judy's rate of red blood cell loss and her platelet the count has improved.  That said, she continues to feel weak and weary.  She is getting another transfusion today in honor of my brother Rick's birthday, December 19.  She is also going to start taking a medication to lower her calcium level which may help her to feel better and they are increasing her dose of Ritalin to give her a bit more energy.  She continues to have a problem with hydration but also has difficulty drinking water.  The doctors would like her to get up and move around more, but she seldom feels like it.  It seems like the adage "listen to your body " doesn't apply in her case.

We will learn more the next time we all go to the doctor, but I am optimistic that they will get the tumors under control and improve her liver function despite the fact that she continues to feel lousy. The fact that she isn't needing as many transfusions may indicate that the infusions she's been taking are helping with the Myelodysplasia. All the love she has given so many for so long is coming back to her in spades. In fact, the visits, calls and texts have been a bit overwhelming. For now, the prayers are probably more helpful than anything. Thank all of you for your support.
